In Europe, TNT Post reaches more than 70 million households and delivers 15 billion items per year. In the Netherlands, TNT Post collects and delivers over 23 million letters, direct mail items and packages every day to over 7 million households. Business case


TNT Post has implemented a data warehouse for analytical and reporting purposes in SAP BW 3.5 and later in SAP BI 7.0. Through the years, this data warehouse has been growing with the analytical scenarios implemented, cumulating the historical data stored and resulting in an overgrowth of master data tables in the CRM scenarios. For business partners, 189 attributes are updated from 16 different sources. In addition, 93 objects are sharing the same master data. Clearly, this situation was damaging reporting performance.

 

 

Solution features


The solution was to be found in the productively used environment. After the analysis of the master data used in reporting and of the reporting performance statistics, the master data objects were split into smaller ones. As a result, the master data of business partners were divided among 12 kinds of partners. In addition, the transaction data flows within the data warehouse were redesigned, as were the reports using new objects. Combined, these interventions significantly impacted reporting performance in a positive way.

Delivery approach


For the purpose of smooth communication, which is the critical driver for successful delivery, Ozone collaborated closely with Just-BI, a SAP BI services provider in the Netherlands. Just-BI installed the project leader and the lead consultant, who remained onsite during the project at all times and who interacted closely on the business site with TNT. Ozone provided the required SAP BI consultancy skills. From time to time, our consultants teamed up with TNT and Just-BI in the Netherlands, but the major part of the integrated solution was developed, tested and implemented remotely in Minsk.
